We’d like to start by saying “WOW” and “PEI ROCKS”. We’ve read social media posts, heard stories, and witnessed ourselves, the effort put forth by all islanders, to protect each other from this global health pandemic. We are so proud to be here with you. In a time that each of us are learning new concepts like “social-distancing”, “self-isolating”, and our favorite, “caremongering”, Prince Edward Island yet again has proven what an amazing place it is.
As anxiety provoking as these times are, it is inspiring to see how we, as Canadians, pull together in times of need. Wicked EH? would like to announce two ways in which we feel we can contribute.
First, for our customers, we have increased the upload speed on all connections to 10Mbps. With everyone working and learning from home we anticipated our clients would need the increased upload. We implemented this change March 10th, 2020, and there will be no extra charge for this during the stay at home mandate. This change decreases the time it takes to upload documents, photos, and assignments.
For the second part, we need to give you a bit of background. We have been providing a free public WiFi service since 2015. We call this network our “#wickedwifi”. You can find #wickedwifi zones in and around downtown Charlottetown and a few other areas around the island. Historically, after watching two 15 second advertisements, customers receive ten minutes of free internet featuring 1.5 Mbps upload and download speeds. (For $1 dollar per day you can enjoy ad free internet with faster speeds). You can utilize as many ten-minute sessions per day as you’d like, and as with all of our service plans, there are no data limits. Each session is private, safe and secure, and you can even do your online banking without concern. We have a saying that “access to information should be free” and there is no greater time for access to information than during a public health crisis. To help islanders that have either little or no access to internet, we have removed the ads and time limits. Additionally, we increased the download and upload speeds to 3.5 Mbps. This 3.5 Mbps is for each device that is connected. We initiated these changes on March 12, 2020.
